FLOW BEHAVIOR IN EXHAUST DIFFUSER OF RADIAL TURBINE

In this study, in order to collect the experimental data for the verification of the accuracy of the computed results concerning the flow in the radial inflow turbine of turbocharger, the flows in the exhaust diffuser downstream of turbine impeller were measured by using the 5-hole pitot tube and the oil flow and the tuft grid visualization techniques. In addition, both experimental and computed results were verified by the comparison with each other. The flow behavior in the exhaust diffuser was clarified to become non-axisymmetric by the influence of the passage geometry upstream of the turbine impeller. Furthermore, the computed results showed the quantitative difference from those of the experiment, which would be caused mainly by the fact that the passage geometry upstream of the impeller was not considered in the numerical analysis.
