Although experience activities of cultivation learning have been carried out in elementary schools, the technology and home economics curricula in junior high schools have not organized the learning contents with the aim of “nurturing living things.” This study attempted to create student readiness for cultivation learning in elementary school by analyzing 54 elementary school textbooks for nine subjects from an elementary school in Saitama city. The results showed that the subjects of life environment studies and science contain the largest description of cultivated plants from the viewpoint of knowledge and skill, while home economics and social studies described their production and distribution with high frequency. Moreover, to improve the students’ learning motivation and interests, cultivating plants should be taught across the subjects.
