The English transitive verb involve can be used to introduce a definition of an action or property, thus serving as a functional equivalent of the linking verb be. This usage represents a specialization of the use of the word where the subject-denoted entity includes the object-denoted one as a necessary part or result. There is, however, some indeterminacy between definitory and non-definitory contexts involving the verb involve.
