This paper highlights the relationship between methodology, practice, and theory, especially in the field of human-helping practice. I focus on psychoanalysis, which is one of the most influential frameworks for humanity and human/social sciences in the twentieth century. We can describe three aspects of psychoanalysis, based on its traditional definition. First, psychoanalysis is a distinctive methodology utilized to inquire about the unconscious. Second, it is a therapy utilized to improve mental health based on its own methodology. Third, it is a practice-based theory concerning the human being, especially the mind. The relationship between these three aspects is as follows: methodology shapes practice, practice shapes theory/thought, and theory/thought gives significance to methodology and practice. In this article, I define this triad of methodology, practice, and theory/thought as comprising the particular relationship of ideas called metamethodology of practice. In meta-methodology of practice, the distinctive methodology provides the means to reach out to human reality, which cannot be accessed without it. This distinctiveness of human reality provides the basis for uniqueness in its practice and theory/thought. Therefore, this distinctive methodology is the key element of the meta-methodology of practice used to contemplate human activity. In the twenty-first century, we find a decline in the use of psychoanalysis. However, we also find the meta-methodology of practice in other human-helping activities. We can regard the Open Dialogue approach to mental health and the Humanitude approach concerning the care of elderly people with dementia as varieties of meta-methodology of practice. It is expected in the following research that the concept of the meta-methodology of practice provides alternative views for the relationship between methodology, practice and theory/thought in education.
