This paper is a review consisting of the author’s series studies on an endogenous disaster recovery process based action research conducted in Kizawa village affected by the 2004 Niigata Chuetsu earthquake. In these studies, several ideas are introduced. First, a recovery process can be considered as a collaborative construction of “narrative” by survivors and outside supporters. Second, an endogenous process can be considered as multi-layer, "level of language," "level of body," and "otherness" as located in survivors' "level of body" which is crucial. Third, the "sugosu" approach, which emphasizes irreplaceability of survivors, could be more effective than "mezasu" approach which attempts to achieve betterment. The "mezasu" approach is inseparably bond to creation of modermized sense of time. Finary, some research topics are mentioned as future topics of research.
