At Osaka University, students with severe to profound hearing loss receive classroom support in which they are accompanied to class by a support student, who support for the student by transcribing what is being said in class in real time either on a personal computer (PC) or by hand. In the present study, we created a trial version of a skill evaluation sheet for PC-based speech-totext service, and used this common evaluation sheet to conduct evaluation of the PC-based speech-totext service skills of support students, by both students with hearing loss and the support students themselves. The evaluators were students at our university, specifically four students with hearing loss and 16 support students. Overall, the evaluations by students with hearing loss were higher than those by the support students themselves. However, students with hearing loss felt that among the categories of “Before the start of class”, “Typing”, “Collaborative skills”, and “Overall text input”, preparations “Before the start of class” were relatively insufficient. In addition, in the six cases in which the same support student was evaluated by two students with hearing loss, the evaluations by the student with hearing loss who was a doctoral student were the lowest, followed in order by those by the student with hearing loss who was a master’s student and the student with hearing loss who was an undergraduate student. Based on these results, we investigated methods of training compatible with more specialized contents as well as approaches for improvement of the environment and shift coordination.
