This paper aims to evaluate the influence of PICC on Japanese contract law as a model of general rules for international commercial contracts. The author first clarifies the distinction between PICC and Japanese law by some comparative study on important rules and major aspects of these two sets of rules. References are also made to corresponding new rules and revisions in the bill to revise the Japanese Civil Code pending in the Congress. It is concluded that rules in Japanese contract law that are clearly different from those in PICC are limited, and the amendment bill is helpful in sense of harmonization of contract law.
