The implementation of the electricity liberalization system has urged municipalities to launch their own electricity retailing businesses. For instance, Tottori City and local capitals in the area started a regional electricity retailing business in 2015. The consortium has planned to accelerate their energy production for local consumption and their social and economic vitalization. In this study, we measured the regional economic impact of an electricity retailing business using the input-output table (IO table). A photovoltaic power plant of 1 MW scale (construction category), and related electricity retailing transactions operated by local capitals (operation category) were assumed to be introduced. Although the economic effect of the construction category would be transitory, its gross domestic product was estimated at 200 million yen (20 years total) using the Leontief inverse matrix derived from the original IO table. Meanwhile, the regional gross domestic product derived from the operation category was estimated at 16 million yen (per one year) using the modified IO table. The operation category would provide sustained revenue to this area, and the results indicate that the introduction of the operation by local capitals is significant.
