研究ノート Source Materials and Remarks
This paper describes the accent system of the Nushima dialect (spoken in Nushima island, Minami-Awaji City, Hyogo Pref.), focusing on two-unit forms, based on the obtained data from the author's fieldwork, and discusses the genealogical position of this dialect. In terms of the accent system, the Nushima dialect belongs to the Chuo-shiki (aka Keihan-shiki) group just like the mainland dialects of Awaji-shima, yet the Nushima dialect has some two-accentual-unit forms which other Chuo-shiki dialects including the Awaji-shima dialects do not have. Synchronically, these two-unit forms are irregular in the accent system, but diachronically, they can be regarded as reflecting the old stage of the Chuo-shiki accent, indicating that the Nushima dialect branched from other Chuo-shiki dialects in an early stage.
