English has many expressions referring to a speaker/listener. Not only "I" but also "you", "they", "we", proper nouns and various other words can represent a speaker and the same applies to a listener. This paper analyzes these expressions from the viewpoint of "subjectivity" and "objectivity" in the framework of Cognitive Grammar. A speaker fills two roles at one and the same time - a subjective role to observe the event and an objective role to act in the event. We will show that the pronoun, "I", focuses on a speaker's objective role with subjectivity in the background and "other expressions" place a speaker's subjective role in the foreground with objectivity in the background.
