Morris Kline is a mathematician, a historian of mathematics, and known as one of the most famous critics in the new math movement in the U.S.A. This paper aims to consider his criticism focusing on his philosophy of mathematics. He believed that mathematics has liberal arts properties because it has acquired relationships to various cultural domains through its contribution toward investigation of the physical world. Kline's criticism was not only against overemphasis of logical rigorousness, but also against isolation of mathematics and deprivation of its liberal arts properties.
