The aim of this study is to clarify the effect of “education strategy of the family” in the transition to Japanese universities from foreign high school. Interviews were carried out with 40 self-financed students from China. We found that parent from different social class have different expectations about their child studying in Japan. Investments in education and expectations of parent have a significant impact on the Educational Attainment of children in Japan. Between the students from a wealthy family who can afford to study abroad easier, and international students hard to afford to study abroad, a significant difference was observed in the education attainment, students with higher educational expectations of parents, and smaller economic pressure, can gain more success in education attainment in Japan.
