This paper explores the idea for close reading and visualization of the young adult novel “Brother in the Land” based on the analysis of the booklet After the Bomb : Brother in the Land and Wider Reading for Year 9 and GCSE courses published in 1990 from the English and Media Centre (EMC), London. The booklet offers several ideas for close reading and wider reading, taking “Brother in the Land” as a starting point. The topic, From Book to Screen, which suggests visualization of the beginning of the novel encourages students to do close reading of the film “Threads” as a text for comparative reading. It also reflects EMC’s basic concept for media education.
