The Joint Seminar in the Faculty of Economics is an education program aiming at encouraging students to voluntarily study about practical issues in the social-economic fields, crossing over several seminars. It was first introduced to the Faculty of Economics, Niigata University in 2014. At the first joint seminar, participants in the program just listened to a presentation made by a practitioner working in business or public service fields. Since then, it has been improved from an active learning point of view to be a discussion-oriented program. Some practical ideas, such as prior learning sessions, point system, have been added to the program. The goal of the program is to combine active learning and high quality professional education. This paper describes the development of the program in the last 2 years and discusses the possibility of further improvement.
