In mid-2000s Japan, people have saw the so-called “World Heritage Fever”, the movements of local governments and private sectors aspiring to vitalize the local tourism by the registration of the World Heritages. But there is almost no evidence on the relationship between the registration of the World Heritage and the trend of the tourists’ numbers. In this paper I examine the change of the number of tourists between before 10 years and after 10 years of the registration of 10 World Heritages in Japan (Horyu-ji, Himeji, Yakushima, Sirakami, Kyoto, Atomic Bomb Dome, Itsukushima-shrine, Nara, Nikkoh and Ryukyu). The result is that the tourists have increased significantly at only 2 of 10 Heritages: Shirakami and Nikkoh.
