What is a realistic aim of learning pronunciation of English as a lingua franca? This paper discusseswhat should be taught explicitly in class to non-native speakers of English so that they can speak in a waywhich is minimally intelligible to their listeners. Teachers are encouraged to attempt at a systematic instructionof English segments and prosody, based on the revised transcription of English pronunciation.
