A Study of Community-based Learning Support for Children of Foreign Originin Mie Prefecture

As the number of immigrant children who attend public schools in Mie Prefecture increases, local boards of education and volunteer groups have begun to offer Japanese language classes as well as study support programs. For this study, we researched local supporting actors, focusing on assistance provided to youths aiming to advance to high school education or higher.We conclude that in Mie Prefecture the support network, including public agencies, local NPOs and voluntary learning support groups, has served effectively. We have also indicated that it is important for supporting actors to provide immigrant parents with accurate information regarding academic and career options for their children in Japan.
