【Objectives】This study aimed to clarify nursing students・experience and learning during psychiatric nursing practice.【Method】Prior to the present study, we obtained approval from the ethical review board of the graduate school of medicine and faculty of medicine of Mie University. Of the nursing students who received training at the neuropsychiatry ward in the University hospital, from September 29, 2014 to February 6, 2015, 28 consented to participate in the study. Using content analysis, we analyzed the minutes (records) of a meeting reflecting the student・experience and learning from the training.【Results】Based on the minutes (records) of a meeting reflecting the student・experience and learning from the training, we made a total of 250 records regarding their learning. These records were assigned to 31 subcategories, which were then subjected to abstraction, and divided into the following 9 categories concerning their experience, and learning from the training: the 1) difficulty of dealing with psychiatric patients, 2) understanding patients through patient-student interaction, 3) necessity of providing nursing care while respecting patients・wishes, 4) importance of self-insight, 5) development of favorable relationships, 6) levels of achievement in training and relevant issues, 7) understanding patients through patient-nurse interaction, 8) understanding treatment and patients・ lives, and 9) the ways in which nurses work in psychiatric nursing.【Conclusion】Nursing student痴 experience and learning were variously caused by interaction with nurses and psychiatric patients during psychiatric nursing training.\nKey Words: Psychiatric Nursing Practice, experience, learning
